Lyrics for Summer Camp: The Musical

Hi all,

Attached are the PDF files containing all of the lyrics for Summer Camp: The Musical. Students, please remember that you only have three songs to learn; Summer Camp, Where I Belong, and your specific class' song.

It appears that the Blogger site doesn't allow PDF files to be uploaded directly, but I think I've found a way around this:
1) Click on the link, and you should be directed to the Google Drive site.
2) The website will say that there is no preview available (I have tried to fix this, but to no avail!)
3) Click the blue download file, and the lyrics will be downloaded to your computer.

If these links are not working, please let me know and I will find an alternative way to get these resources to students!

Thanks,
Miss Funk

Exciting Things in the Future!

Hello everyone! My name is Danielle Funk, and I am the temporary music teacher at Catherine Nichols Gunn School for April and most of May. I have been working with the students since the middle of March, and it is high time that I introduce myself to the families and caregivers of these wonderful children:

I am a recent graduate of the University of Lethbridge, and hold a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts. I just moved to Calgary at the beginning of February, and have fallen in love with both the city and this school!

As some of you have hopefully heard, the Division II students are getting ready for their upcoming spring concert. This year, we will be producing a full-blown musical, entitled Summer Camp: The Musical!

All students are learning three songs during music class, which will all play an important role in the musical. In addition, many students auditioned for and received speaking roles for our show; these students are eagerly practicing their lines, and have lunchtime meetings on Tuesdays and Fridays to rehearse.

Later tonight I will post another entry containing all of the resources students need for the musical. This includes PDF files of the lyrics to each song, as well as the audio files of each song in the show. Please feel free to download these resources and use them to practice as often as you like! The audio files could be uploaded to iTunes, and then to a music player, tablet, smartphone, or burned onto a CD.

Remember to mark your calendars for the day of the performance: THURSDAY, MAY 21st at 6:30pm!

If you have any questions about the musical or anything else related to this class, please do not hesitate to contact me at 403-702-0031 or drfunk@cbe.ab.ca

Musically yours,
Miss Funk

Remembrance Day and Thank You!

A big thank you to all parents and students who took the time to come and visit me in the music room during our Student Led Conferences!  It was wonderful to meet new parents and to catch up with others.

After the fall break, we have had a new instrument join our classroom.  Thanks to you and Parent Council, we have a new electric piano!  It is so important for students to learn to sing in tune and a piano can be an effective tool for this but only if it is in tune.  If it is out of tune, students will learn to sing out of tune.  Not anymore!  Our Yamaha Clavinova model CLP480 will never require tuning.  It also has powerful built in speakers which will come in handy for assemblies and concerts.  I have even been using the spooky organ sounds for Halloween.
Please join us on Friday, November 7th at 10:45am for our Remembrance Day assembly.  Mrs. Fraser's Grade 6 class has been working especially hard on two beautiful choir pieces which even have four special soloists.  It will also be a great opportunity to hear our new piano.

Getting started!

We are well on our way in the music room.  Students have been busy learning songs, music games, and a variety of instruments.

Our Grade 6 class performed a mini concert for the Admin Team as well as the grade 4 and 5 students.  It was a piece called "Splash of Blue" based on rhythms and themes from the famous Blue Man Group.  We will most likely be performing this one for our Spring Concert in May because it was such a big hit!

Welcome to Music!

My name is Catherine Irwin and it’s my second year as the Music Specialist here at Catherine Nichols Gunn.  This is my tenth year as an elementary music specialist with the Calgary Board of Education.  I have taught music at Mayland Heights, Greenview, Eugene Coste and Douglas Harkness.  It is a pleasure teaching here at C.N. Gunn and I am thrilled to be a part of your community again!

I am an Orff trained teacher with my Level II in the Orff approach to teaching elementary music.  The Orff approach was developed by composer, Carl Orff.  The Orff Method is a way of teaching children about music that engages their mind and body through a mixture of singing, dancing, creating and the use of percussion instruments (i.e. xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, and non pitched percussion).

I look forward to getting to know your children and making magic happen in our Music room.
